My lathe work began in December, 1989 with segmented turnings. The different colors of wood and mosaic designs appealed to my taste for thing of a complex nature. However, after completing approximately 30 vessels, I realized the need for improvement over the flat, horizontal or vertical seam style commonly in use. With this challenge in mind, I began experimenting with nesting techniques which allow portions of one section to overlay onto another. This method, combined with sculptural carving and various surface textures, opened entirely new avenues of design possibilities. This vessel and its identical twin are the products of that endeavor.<Challenge V
