Jake Brubaker learned how to make saffron containers from his father and grandfather who were influenced by Joseph Long Lehn, a noted Lancaster County turner. Brubaker was a toy pattern maker and Mennonite priest who turned first as a hobby and later as a full-time avocation. During the 1977 Wood Turning Center symposium Jake was challenged to produce something new. The following year he presented the Center with one of his saffron containers, the result of that challenge.
