Question your views of wood art...
ANOTHER VIEW
September 23 December 31, 2005
Philadelphia, PA July 7, 2005. The Wood Turning Center, located in Old City, invites the public to an opening reception for Another View on Friday, September 23, 2005, 5:30-8:00pm.
Another View gives Garry Knox Bennett and Gord Peteran a chance to construct and deconstruct conventional notions of wood art and turned forms. While Bennett and Peteran are more closely connected to the studio furniture movement these two unpredictable artists have set their sights specifically on wood turning with some predictably perplexing results. They question materials, process and product - urging the viewer to consider the hidden meanings of each piece.
Presented simultaneously with Connections Plus. Connections Plus invited past International Turning Exchange (ITE) fellows from the past ten years to submit a piece that reflects the impact of this residency program on his/her artwork. Artists report that the ITE experience radically transformed their outlook on life and work.
The Wood Turning Center is a Philadelphia-based, not-for-profit arts organization in the Old City gallery area. Through educational programs, changing exhibitions and publications, educational programs, a research library and a permanent collection, the Center encourages artists to explore, and promotes a public appreciation of wood art and other materials, turned and carved.
Another View is supported in part by the Arcadia Foundation, Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation, Friends of the Wood Turning Center, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Philadelphia Cultural Fund and The William Penn Foundation.
