INNOVATIONS: PERSPECTIVES IN TURNING
INTRIGUING CONTEMPORARY WOOD ART EXHIBITION


Philadelphia, PA – June 30, 2005. The Wood Turning Center, located in Old City, invites the public to an opening reception for Innovations: Perspectives in Turing on First Friday, July 1, 2005, 5:30-8:30pm and to view the exhibit from July 1 – August 13, 2005.

Innovations: Perspectives in Turning is a unique exhibition of fascinating contemporary wood art by over twenty internationally emerging and established artists. Each piece illustrates the maker’s strong personal vision inspiring their distinctive materials and forms, from traditional vessels to purely sculptural objects.

Exhibited concurrently at two art venues across New England, the Wood Turing Center in Philadelphia, PA and the Brookfield, MA. The exhibition celebrates the Wood Turning Center’s recently expanded facility increasing exhibitions and display space for the museum store. It also coincides with the dedication of the Brookfield Craft Center’s new state-of-the art educational studio, The Brookfield Turning Center. The Wood Turning Center is a Philadelphia-based, non-profit, arts institution, gallery and resource center, that supports and develops the field of wood and lathe-turned art. Through educational programs, exhibitions, collections, preservation, and promotion, the Center encourages artists and cultivates a public appreciation of wood art. Founded in 1986, the Center has become an internationally recognized source of information and assistance and has the largest known physical and virtual collection of turned objects.
