Lincoln Seitzman: Illusions in Wood 1984-2004 displays over 25 pieces of work that Seitzman created over twenty years, after an engineering degree and retirement from his family's New Jersey clothing manufacturing business.  The vessel, basket, and platter forms reveal the heart and mind of an innovative craftsman in the field of contemporary wood art.  "His pieced and turned objects are as refined conceptually and technically as anything made on the lathe today", says exhibition essayist, Robin Rice. She continues, "Seitzman’s  "Petrified" series is made of glossy, highly finished dark and light colored woods cut in contrasting widths.  Often strokes of a tiny pen create "shadows" that complete the illusion of weaving,” as in Petrified Basket in the Wood Turning Center ’s permanent collection.

Of Seitzman’s acclaimed “Basket Illusions” series, Glenn Adamson writes in the publication, Wood Turning in North America Since 1930 “of the turners who tried their hand at basketry designs, the most faithful to the Native American model was Lincoln Seitzman. This approach has permitted him to execute designs based on the complicated weaves of a variety of baskets.” His Apache Olla Basket Illusion is part of the White House collection of craft.
