This body of work represents a part of my journey through life, in particular the period up to and including the ITE experience. In my search for creative expression I have looked more and more towards things that I am passionate about and feel at ease with, the natural environments of ocean, forest and river. These influences are evident in the organic form of my work; the designs, textures and details reflect elements of these environments.
Participating in the International Turning Exchange has removed me from the comfort zones of environment, familiarity of equipment and materials and, most particularly, family! My mind has been opened by many new experiences, visiting museums, studios, collections, meeting many new people and living and living and working with a big new family. Much of this has had an instant effect on me and inspired various pieces that have emerged during the ITE experience, but I am sure that this is only the watershed for the river of experiences, friendships and creativity that will flow from this. I prefer not to go into detail on the inspiration behind individual pieces, as this is a bit like being told the story line before you read the book. I would rather my work be explored without preconceived notions, then the story behind the work can be another good book to read. Graeme Priddle
