George departed from his bold approach and began working on a bowl with thin sides. His first attempt exploded, a disappointment because he "really liked where it was going."

He tried again. A hole broke into the side. The third time was the charm. He began to scorch the surface as a finish. He ran out of fuel for the blowtorch.
