Hi. I am Natty Leach. My whole name is Nathaniel Thomas Gotwald Leach. I am 10 years old and starting fifth grade at Penn Charter School in Philadelphia this fall.

My mom is the photojournalist for this year’s ITE. So I had to come along. I first turned wood last year at the ITE Open Community Day. I turned a pen. I still have it. I am interested in wood, but when my mom told me we were going to be here for eight weeks I felt like she was taking me to prison.

But I like it. Mom let me be part of the George School Day Camp for the first few weeks. It was fun and I’d like to come back again.

After the first few weeks Eli Scaerce and Ryta Weiner showed me a few things about turning. They started me on spindle turning and I did a few of them. I even found my own stick and tried to turn it. But spindle turning got boring, so Ryta showed me how to turn a bowl. This was fun. I made a bowl of walnut. I left a dimple in the middle because I liked it. I am going to give this one to my teacher at school. Then I made a bowl of bloodwood. I think this wood is pretty.

Then I made the plate out of maple. I like the white wood and started on a lidded box of dark walnut. It is supposed to have a maple lid with a walnut handle. Dark wood, light top, Dark handle. I think it will be neat but it is not finished yet.
