Artist's Statement: ITE offered me the opportunity to work with other turners, learn new techniques, expand the approach to my work; all without the demands of everyday life and in a setting conducive to the creative process. In some ways it is difficult to move away from familiar forms, but ITE is about experimentation, expansion and collaboration. Using new woods and tools, freeing myself to play and exchange concepts and ideas with the other residents resulted in a wide variety of work. As I prepare to return to my own studio, I wonder about the effect on my work that the ITE residency will ultimately have and how I will use what I've learned this summer.
