Artist's Statement:
Eli Avisera, Israel
Lathe Artist

I arrived at the ITE 2003 with quite a lot of experience in wood art, i.e. wood carving, wood turning and furniture. My plan was to learn additional wood crafts which I could incorporate into my own work. After several visits to galleries, museums and collectors, my plans changed. I decided to incorporate new materials into my work such as corian, color and even Wood Turning Center toothpicks. I also started to work on a more abstract level, still using my techniques. My emphasis being on designing the general look. This can be seen in my work for example in The Nest or The Family From the Ocean. I was also greatly impressed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs and have tried to assimilate his ideas into my own work. His simply-lined windows and colors have influenced my present creative style.

In summary, I will not soon forget the experience of ITE 2003.

I wish to thank Mr. Albert LeCoff and the Wood Turning Center for giving me the opportunity to display my work and to represent the State of Israel in a different light than is usually seen in the news.
