In addition, selections from the Center’s extensive collection of archival materials will be on display in its resource library. A catalogue of the WTC permanent collection available for $25.
Artists’ Reflections: Selections from the Wood Turning Center ’s Collections: exposes the public to the holdings from the Wood Turning Center ’s permanent collection of over 900 art objects and 25,000 books, slides and artists’ files. The exhibition showcases this extensive collection as well as the creative possibilities of contemporary wood art and the woodturning field.
“The Center’s collection of objects from the last three decades constitutes a canon that has played a key role in shaping the sensibilities of the recent generation of private collectors.”
Glenn Adamson, Curator of the Chipstone Foundation
“The Wood Turning Center is the premier institution for scholarship in the turning field. Certainly our joint effort in organizing the exhibition and publication Wood Turning in North America Since 1930 could not have happened without the resources of the Center. I remember the early meetings in Philadelphia in which we poured through the slide collection to gather a sense of the shape and history of the field. The biographies of the more than sixty artists included in the exhibition could not have been compiled without the use of the Center’s files. Furthermore, the exhibition and publication benefited greatly by the loans from the Center of nineteen of the 134 objects in the exhibition.”
Patricia E. Kane, Friends of American Arts
Curator of American Decorative Arts, Yale University Art Gallery
To further the appreciation of the Artists’ Reflections exhibit and the education of the wood art and woodturning field, the Wood Turning Center will also be holding these educational events.
